Keeping in line with our mission, Texas Vent Pros continue on the path of lowering electric bills and energy usage by offering Home Energy Audits.
Electricity usage can skyrocket in our extreme times of the year. The 2 primary, largest energy producers of electric usage in a home is the AC/Heating system and hot water heaters.
Hot Water Heater: Aside from a complete hot water heater change out to a higher efficiency unit, there are not many options for us to change in this category. Install an insulated blanket over the tank to help retain the elements that have been produced already, otherwise we would recommend shorter duration showers and reduce shower temperatures to tolerable. These will reduce the frequency of water heating in the unit. The obvious, yet more expensive, changeout to a higher efficiency water heater. in either way, our goal is to reduce the number of cycles, if this is accomplished, we can lower utility bills.
AC/Heating units. This is the primary driver of our electric bills, the cost of being comfortable in your home. Our job in this category is to reduce the number of cycles. Let's say in a given week, your unit cycles on and off 70 times, we work to reduce that number. A reduction of number of cycles equates to electric savings. The most efficient air conditioning system is a system that is off. We realize that in not realistic during our extreme summer and winter, our objective is to reduce the number of cycles by locating areas of conditioned air loss.
Attic ventilation creates cool air exchange in the attic space to reduce the overall temperature in the attic, this reduces the amount of heat transfer in to your living spaces and keeps the air space around attic mounted air handlers cooler, thus allowing the air conditioner to operate more efficiently, reducing the number of HVAC cycles. Winter time ventilation reduces attic moisture allowing better performance by your insulation. Summer time ventilation creates cooler air exchanges in super heated attics, creating lower temperatures at duct work and your air handler, creating a more efficient air conditioning system not having to overcome severe external factors. When this reduction occurs, we lower our electric demand equaling energy savings.
Objective of energy audits, to tighten up your home. Identify areas of inefficiency. When conditioned air is produced, can we keep it in our living spaces longer? That answer is yes, by locating areas of loss. Thus reducing the number of air conditioning cycles....lowering our electricity demand.
Problematic areas:
-weather stripping around doors
-improperly sealed windows
-drafty outlets
-insufficient attic insulation
-ineffective attic ventilation
-appropriate sized HVAC unit to the house demand
-appropriate HVAC installation techniques
Home energy audits include:
-thermal camera assessment
-visual inspection of windows and doors
-attic ventilation system flow testing
-HVAC efficiency testing
-insulation inspections
-technical analysis with a blower door test- fee charged for blower door test
All listed work can be completed by our team.
